Currently manufacturers are only required to warn consumers when a top eight allergen is present in the recipe of a product. Due to the prolific number of cross contamination reactions with unlabeled products we propose that the FDA create standardized, required labeling for both shared manufacturing lines and shared facilities. This common sense regulation will help protect the millions of adults and children who suffer from severe food allergies. Good manufacturing practices cannot replace the power of an informed consumer, and they have not been enough to prevent many people from suffering through cross contamination reactions.
