We call on the Obama administration to articulate a sound strategy to ensure access to contraceptive coverage under the Affordable Care Act.
In 2011, the Institute of Medicine recommended that contraceptive coverage be included in the preventive services offered to women at no out-of-pocket cost under the ACA.
In the wake of this recommendation, we have seen organizations refuse to participate in this plan based on religious grounds. Both by conflating contraception with abortion, and by deriding contraception as merely a pathway to immoral sexual activity rather than a healthcare concern, they have placed themselves in opposition to the best policy consensus.
We call on the administration to take action to protect the contraceptive mandate and ensure a sound healthcare policy.
