The EPA began good work in the 70's, but under Pres. Reagon its governance was directed to hobble its effect & undermine its mandate to defend the environment and reverse prior destruction.
Reagon and Republicans since have seen it as "anti-business" for requiring business to be accountable for its effect on the environment.
Truthfully, the marketplace price of any product should include the cost of repairing the effect of production, whether agricultural, factory-made, raw material, or service. The product should market at the cost of returning the physical, social, or cultural environment to its original state. If the price is too dear, then obviously the commodity should not be produced.
We still need an EPA with teeth to watchdog our children's future and the nation's health.
