The power grid of the United States is archaic. We need to strengthen the grid to protect against EMPs, which can create widespread blackouts, thus leaving the entire country vulnerable to attack. We could also use an upgrade, because people are going to start using electric automobiles in the near future, putting a strain on the electrical system. So, by creating a better power grid, we can ensure long term national security and be more environmentally friendly.
