Even though the Second Amendment protects the right to bear arms, the issue of public safety outweighs this right. Much like the First Amendment guarantees freedom of speech, it is unlawful to enter a theater and yell "fire" there is no such instance or similarly to yell obscenities in a public setting. This petition seeks to strengthen the bureaucracy and to set in place comprehensive mental examinations for the possession of weaponry, namely assault weapons. The people's right to weaponry outweighs the safety of the public, as demonstrated in the recent elementary school shooting in Connecticut and other shootings in various parts of the nation.
