Strengthen Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid

Created by M.S. on November 27, 2012

President Obama has said he is willing to put Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid on the discussion table to avoid the "financial cliff". Here are some steps for him to take to strengthen these three programs:

1. Remove the ceiling for paying Social Security, so everyone pays into the fund based on their total income, no matter what they earn.

2. Stop any borrowing from the Social Security Trust Fund and pay back any monies owed.

3. Allow Medicare to take bids on pharmaceuticals and other supplies. Private insurance programs do and save tremendously. I believe the VA does also.

4. Examine Medicaid programs for ways to improve their efficiency. Do not remove this very valuable safety net and do not give it over to the states who can't afford it.
