Strengthen the U.S. Dollar

Created by C.P. on October 06, 2011

The U.S. Dollar (USD) is near historical lows. This weak dollar hampers the economic recovery of the United States. A weak dollar causes food prices, clothing prices, transportation costs, etc. to go up. This means the average American is having to spend more for the basic necessities. Those who were struggling to stay above water are now drowning as their income is artificially lowered. The weakend dollar also hampers businesses ability to create more jobs and to expand. Business can't hire as many people as before

The White House can strengthen the dollar through a number of ways: stop or reduce the number of printed currency, sell bonds, require higher reserves on banks, etc. This petition asks that the administration take steps to strengthen the dollar to a minimum 1990 levels.
