All too often free trade agreements are signed resulting in unequal and unfair outcomes. Lower skilled workers in the US often lose jobs as operations move to lower wage countries resulting from the agreements. These workers and their families are faced with the costs of pursuing another career while companies and consumers benefit from lower prices. Before signing any new trade agreements, the US government should require any other countries participating in the agreements to adopt the American minimum wage. A five percent tariff on any imported goods and services should be enacted and proceeds used toward college tuition for workers displaced by companies who move jobs to other countries.
