Strictly license all fire arms.

All firearms should be licensed and registered like cars. No firearms should be sold to minors under 16. No former fellons or the mentally ill should be allowed to own firearms. Selling firearms illegally should be a fellony punishable by jail time. Make the owners carry liability insurance. When our founding fathers conceived the constitution, they needed an armed civilian militia to defend the new nation because there was no standing army. They certainly never intended citizens to walk around with automatic weapons and sub machine guns. Remember, in the 18th century it took time to prime and load a musket. Certainly long enough to have time to think on what you were doing. By the time you loaded a musket, you would have thought twice about shooting your wife or husband in the head.
