Strip the SEC of its power to halt trading on stocks unless they are bringing formal charges against the company.

Created by B.F. on July 01, 2014

The SEC is currently able to halt trading on stocks because they "feel" that a company may be involved in illegal activity with respect to their trading practices. These halts rarely result in formal charges being brought against the companies in question. The halts almost always result in the stock of the company plummeting when trading resumes and creates unnecessary hardship for both the company and the innocent investors. This is done with little oversight from other branches. This is far too much power for any one branch of the government. The SEC should not be able to halt stock trading unless they are bringing formal charges against the company.
