The Second Amendment specified that the reason for possession of a firearm was for service in the State militia. The Supreme Court, after prodding from the NRA crowd, decided that the militia was not an issue. I believe it should be as originally intended. The only way we can overcome the Supreme Court decision is to pass a Constitution Amendment that specifies that ONLY people qualified for the State Militias can possess firearms. Those people who would not qualify for membership in the State Militia would be prohibited from possession. Obviously we would not include the mentally ill or convicts, but each state could decide who they want in their militia. We could also specify that the states could OK those firearms they wanted or the state militia. Put the decision in the State hands.
