Worldwide, homework does not seem to have a significant affect on academic success. In addition, homework is proven to have an adverse effect on sleep, and, therefore, the health and well being of the students. As seen in Finland, there are a multitude of alternatives to homework, many being more successful than the aforementioned. In the preamble to the constitution, it is clearly stated that one of the few functions of government important enough to be included within the preamble is to "promote the general welfare." We must be dedicated to the purpose of the constitution, and, as such, it is our patriotic duty to ensure the health of our students, and, through them, the health of our future economy, and the nation, by strongly discouraging schools from giving out homework to students.
