If drugs such as Zofran (Ondansetron) can control the symptoms and limit the severity of side effects of this extremely common condition, as evidence indicates they can, expensive visits to the emergency room and discomfort experienced by patients can be avoided.
Why aren’t patients, or parents of patients, allowed over-the-counter access to moderate doses of these drugs as soon as symptoms occur to prevent a potential emergency situation? Why should they wait days until dangerous dehydration occurs and family members are exposed to the results of this condition which increase the likelihood that it will spread to more of the population?
