Waiting at traffic lights and coming to complete halt at stop signs waists vast amounts of time, fuel and contributes to air pollution and global warming. There are thousands of intersections that could be safely converted to traffic circles where the savings in lost wages and fuel would quickly more than make up for the construction costs.
The costs could be paid for by increasing fuel and oil company taxes. These projects would provide good paying construction jobs. Modern sensing technology can make traffic circles as safe as traffic lights.
We petitioners want the administration to order the Transportation department to provide a report on traffic circle conversion. Then if feasible, present a bill to Congress for funding and construction.
