Study the Viability of National Licensing for Professions.

Created by J.V. on November 14, 2012

This petition requests that the White House formally study the viability and economic impact of national licensing for professions.

Many experienced professionals - including medical personnel, mental health professionals, and tradespeople - are severely limited in their ability to seek employment by the current practice of state-level licensing. Many job openings in this field require a current license in the state where the opening exists, and otherwise-excellent applicants are therefore excluded because of their residency in another state.

Establishing national licensing would allow professionals to conduct national job searches, allowing them to move to areas in need of their skills. Additionally, those married to licensed professionals would likewise have freedom of mobility.
