Hand guns are the #1 murder weapon used in the US, every year. Just about anyone can legally buy a hand gun, and then leave it laying around the house. If it is stolen, it is very easy to purchase another hand gun. We need to make it more difficult to legally obtain a hand gun, so that folks who have hand guns now will treat their hand guns with more care.
We cannot have armed guards everywhere. We need to stop treating hand guns like they are some kind of innocent bystander in all these murders.
In 1934, the US gov't placed restrictions on the purchase of machine guns. Very few people own a machine gun today. That is OK. Let's work towards that with hand guns. And we can start by requiring the same procedure to purchase a hand gun as we use to purchase a machine gun.
