It is unacceptable for the government to reject petitions that reach the minimum number of signatures no matter the nature of those petitions and the distance they may be from the attitude of elected government. To ensure that all the people have the right to determine the course of the State it is necessary to recognize that they have the right to expect public petitions be offered up for the consideration of all the people by way of referenda.
For example, a hundred thousand Americans supported the construction of a 'deathstar' by petition. That should go to referenda and not be rejected simply because it is something the current government opposes.
