Americans are hard-working people, but we could use a day off from time to time to celebrate all the good things about being Americans. Unfortunately, our national holidays are clustered almost exclusively in the second half of the year, and there is a marathon five-month period of time from January through May when most workers receive no holiday at all. A national holiday in March or April will split this long period, and can be aligned with other events such as spring break in the public schools. It should be a national holiday observed by all people and not just a federal holiday for government employees.
