We believe that Congress, through its inaction, has caused the current situation resulting in economic hardships for over a million civil servants in the United States, due to their being furloughed for one day a week for the rest of the fiscal year.
We feel that Congress should share in the financial burdens of their fellow federal workers, which were directly caused by their failure to act to prevent sequestration.
Therefore, we propose a bill that would, as an act of solidarity, allow for the entire Congress to voluntarily take an 11-week pay cut of 20%, beginning on the day of the bill's passage.
