Submit a bill that removes marijuana from the list of controlled substances and have it regulated like alcohol

Created by D.S. on November 13, 2012

Marijuana is currently a schedule I drug. Cocaine is a schedule II drug. What this means is that the federal government believes that Marijuana is categorically more harmful than Cocaine.

This is a blatantly false idea that is perpetrated purely to prop up the private prison industry and the rest of the prison industrial complex. 500,000 people are imprisoned every year for nothing more than using a plant that grows in the ground and is less harmful than tobacco, another plant that simply grows in the ground.

Scientifically speaking, marijuana is less harmful than alcohol and tobacco, and has resulted in zero deaths in over 5000 years of continues use.

For those reasons, I would like to see Marijuana removed from the list of controlled substances and regulated like alcohol.
