The life term for Supreme Court justices does not make sense in modern times. Justices can now occupy the bench for decades, and advances in medical technology will only lengthen that time. Supreme Court Justices have responsibilities that require them to understand the people who their decisions wills affect and modern technologies. Recent decisions have shown that some of the Justices not only do not understand modern technology, but that some members of the Court are completely out of touch with the average person. Justices have decades to tweak major policy one piece at a time, and some cases rely on judicially-created chains of fuzzy logic that extend decades back in time in order to justify themselves. Justices should serve for 10-20 years and then have to retire.
