Submit legislation requiring joint-session of Congress hear annual readings of George Washington's Farewell Address.

Created by P.B. on February 18, 2013

George Washington's Farewell Address is the most under-appreciated document in American History. Washington's warnings about foreign entanglements, partisanship and other dangers have been ignored, not just by recent generations, but past ones as well. I am not for 'Founding Father Worship,' but GW's words on the evils of partisanship are as relevant today as they ever were. The idea is to FORCE the US Congress and the POTUS to sit there in joint session and have the Farewell Address read inside the Chamber. All those partisans on both sides will be forced to hang their heads in shame, while the few remaining moderates are strengthened. We hope each year to remind partisans to represent the people not parties. http://avalon.law.yale.edu/18th_century/washing.asp
