Subsidize Companies Developing Antibiotic Adjuvants

Dear President Obama,

As I am sure you are already aware, antibiotic resistance has become a pandemic. The overuse of antibiotics have given rise to “superbugs,” bacteria which are resistant to many antibiotics, drugs used to treat bacterial infections. Simultaneously, a lack of profit and demanding clinical trials have discouraged pharmaceutical companies from creating new antibiotics. As a result, the library of effective antibiotics is dwindling, and the absence of a treatment for bacterial infections would place enormous stress on our health care system. Without these “wonder drugs,” complicated medical procedures would no longer be feasible, and an injury as insignificant as a paper cut could be fatal.
To preserve antibiotics against resistance, I propose promoting the development
