By government subsidization of computers preinstalled with open source operating systems, American businesses can provide low cost, powerful computers to citizens without the hassle of paying royalty and licensing fees to closed source, proprietary OS makers, bringing the final cost of the system to the end consumer much closer to the actual cost of making the computer. This can assist low income Americans who could not otherwise afford a computer, college students who are on tight budgets, and others who have older and obsolete computers, not to mention normal, well-off citizens and families who would appreciate a low risk, high reward investment.
