In order to better protect the citizens of the United States, their land and their lives, we petition the Obama Administration to substantially increase funding to NOAA and the NSF to reduce the risk of tornadoes. American ingenuity should be able to collectively address this issue in the next few years, but only if funding is put in place to combat this seasonal scourge. With increased research, we should be able to better understand, detect, and eventually work to prevent tornadoes before more lives are lost. Until that time, funding should be set aside for structural improvements to buildings in high risk areas. Increased funding to the two leading federal agencies capable of carrying out and facilitating such research should become a priority of this administration.
