All Americans know students don't finish our math books by June . Yet every fall they are handed new math books.Fact #1 You can't recall something you never learned. Our kids do well in the early math years, shockingly they guess the half or third of the book they never learned !!! Of course discouragement starts around jr. high. Eventually they blame themselves but it's OUR fault. We never finished our books either! I propose we open math centers every summer @pub library stocked with retired math teachers.Kids do their problem sets at home as usual. go to center for math corrections&weekly testing.Advanced students can volunteer & a board of retired teachers can run each program. The benefit ; low cost because of volunteers, libraries r open.Senior&student interaction, raise math scores!
