Sunset the Penny and the Nickel as US Currency

Created by J.L. on April 03, 2013

Currency is designed to facilitate efficient trade between parties; it is backed by the government to guarantee transactions. Currency ceases to hold value once it can no longer purchase anything.

New Zealand, Australia, Finland, Holland and the US military all round their transactions to the nearest $.05 to more efficiently facilitate commerce.

Pennies cost $.017 to create despite their value of $.01. Additionally, the wasted time of trading these pennies. A nickel costs $.09 to create despite its value of $.05.

I have no issue with dimes (for now).

I have deep gratitude for those people who make coins to facilitate commerce in our country. I humbly make a plea for reason in our trade.
