Marijuana has, for too long, been demonized in America. Elected officials in the mid 20th century used flagrant (and fabricated) 'reports' of the rash behaviors related to marijuana, and were often based on bias towards African Americans and aversion towards migrant workers from Central America. The social fervor around its use led to President Nixon to form the Shafer commission to research its effects. So strong was the tide that, even after Shafer reported it as safe as alcohol, if not safer, Nixon blasted the commission for going against Congress. The 'war' on Weed has taken the lives and futures of countless people. Take Pot from cartels and give it to commerce. We the undersigned ask the President, the Attorney General, and every elected official to swiftly bring this bill into law.
