Support an Amendment to Remove the Electoral College and Make Presidential Elections Subject to the Popular Vote

Created by M.P. on January 25, 2013

The Electoral College is an outdated institution that has resulted in three instances in which the candidate with more nationwide popular votes lost the election (a roughly 5% failure rate).

Because of the winner-take-all nature of electoral vote counting, the majority of Presidential campaigning is done in a handful of states, with those states essentially deciding the election.

Support a Constitutional amendment doing away with the Electoral College, and make the Presidential elections subject to the nationwide popular vote. This would eliminate the possibility of the “wrong” candidate winning the election, and would force Presidential candidates to campaign nationwide.
