Support and pass a bill that requires all citizens to pass a basic civics exam before being allowed to vote.

Created by M.C. on November 29, 2012

Our founding fathers placed in the Constitution the requirement of being a land owner in order to vote. This requirement is no longer the case and rightfully so. However this requirement was a way to ensure that we had an educated and/or informed electorate. Today there is no qualification measure to vote. People should be able to articulate why they vote for the candidates and/or issues of the day. One way to get closer to this goal is to have the electorate pass a basic civics test. We can use a test similar to the exam used by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services in order to become a Citizen of the United States.
