This petition is in support for the Student Loan Borrowers' Bill of Rights Act of 2013. Currently outstanding student loan debt stands at $870 billion, which is more than the nation's credit card debt. This bill assists those who are having trouble paying their loans or have already defaulted on their loans. This bill prohibits the Department of Education from collecting amounts owed through offsets of social security, offsets of tax refunds, and wage garnishment. It also will remove educational loans from the list of debts that are non-dischargeable in bankruptcy. Additionally, it will also allows for students to gain debt forgiveness at a faster rate.
