support a broad optional 4-day standard work week, in private and public sector.

Created by C.G. on November 18, 2011

The state of Nevada experimented with a four-day workweek to help close the budget deficit in that state. By changing the work schedule from 8 hour days to 10 hour days Monday-Thursday, workers were able to enjoy longer weekends after working slightly longer days. Most surveyed found the new experimental work schedule benefited them.

The rationale is:

1. Reduce traffic congestion (fewer cars)
2. Reduce greenhouse emissions by up to 20%
3. Reduce gas consumption
3. Enable three-day weekends (improve quality of life)
4. Reduce energy costs to employer (heat/cooling systems)
5. Boost productivity for employees
6. Reduce # of traffic accidents

If you allow people to work 10 hours per day to complete 40 hours per week, workers will be happier, healthier, and safer.
