Cancer affects nearly every single American. The financial toll of this disease is devastating, and there are scarce resources to help a family through.
Local charities are struggling, state and federal assistance programs are underfunded, and very few national charities for cancer offer financial assistance.
Tens of thousands of Americans lose their jobs while in treatment for cancer; this is where the financial ruin starts. Those with cancer struggle to find temporary resources during and after treatment. Many who are stage IV are denied repeatedly for Social Security disability. Still more fall into the impossible hole of not being eligible for assistance, or able to afford copays, or denied treatment and life saving medications.
Moonshot needs to include taking care of those fighting.
