Catalonia has tried over and over again to negotiate a peaceful way to gain autonomy and remain in Spain or to break out peacefully like Scotland. Over and over again the Spanish government has outright refused to do any concessions, threatened to arrest politicians and to send their armies against the civilians and censored pro-catalan media. Catalonia has its own language and culture and at this point only threats of invasion are keeping us from starting independence given the plebiscite is won by the pro independence forces.
As a Catalan American I would like America to defend the principles of freedom that are enjoyed in the United States.
