Approximately eighty percent of Americans live within a functioning urban area. Many live in a designated Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA). However, MSA's are not adequately represented in the U.S. Senate. In 1787, at the Constitutional Convention, the Founding Fathers adopted the Connecticut Compromise, which sanctioned two U.S. Senators per State regardless of size or population. Because of that action, there now exists an imbalance of power in the U.S. Senate. This misalignment of power has produced a dysfunctional governing body that has to function in the predominantly urban society. It is time to redress that compromise and shift power to the Cities.Thirty States would be directly impacted and seven States would be partially impacted. The total number of U.S. Senators would be 150.
