This petition seeks to simply create a Constitutional Amendment that defines marriage as the legal union between one man and one woman.
Such an amendment would not infringe on the rights of those individuals not meeting the definition of marriage to create contractual civil agreements for the disposition/sharing of assets, medical decisions, care-taking, power of attorney, and/or other relevant items allowed according to individual state law, but it would create a nationally accepted definition and an enduring protection for "traditional" marriage as defined by this amendment as a benefit to society for both the present and the future.
