Membership in the House of Representatives or the Senate should be a temporary public service, not a career choice. Congressmen should be restricted to a maximum of five two-year terms, and senators should be restricted to a maximum of two six-year terms in offce, after which they should return to private life without a hefty government pension. Our legislative branch is too focused on getting re-elected or serving their own (or their party's) interests over what's right for our country. They get so caught up in their decades in office that they forget where they came from or who they work for.
