It is time for our nation to face reality and finally accept that prostitution will never be eliminated. Once we accept this, we must also realize that the creation of a legal and regulated sex industry is the safest, most logical, and most compassionate course of action. Because of its illegal status, prostitution has turned into an underground institution, ran by violent criminals. By legalizing prostitution, the criminals are replaced by legitimate businesspeople, and violence ceases to be an acceptable business practice. Also, if we follow Nevada's system of mandatory condom use and weekly STD tests, then the spread of disease will be greatly reduced. Lastly, a legal sex industry reduces exploitation because law enforcement can make sure that all workers are 18, and working by choice.
