Support the creation of a new, Native American-majority state in the Four Corners region of the Southwest.

Created by B.G. on November 14, 2012

This petition was partly inspired by the life of the late Russell Means, and is a tribute to him.

Native Americans have suffered a great deal from broken treaties at the hands of the U.S. federal government, and it's time to right this wrong. I believe the most powerful way of doing so would be to create a Native American homeland in the Four Corners region, that would be a state like any other with its own representation in Congress. It would be centered on Apache County in what is now AZ (which is already majority Native American), and would also include portions of neighboring counties in AZ, UT, NM, and possibly CO.

As a geographic center of Native American culture, the new state would also be a powerful tourist magnet, and would thus provide great benefit to the U.S. economy.
