support a directive that would penalize any false statements during national elections.

Created by L.B. on January 14, 2013

National elections are heavily funded and are, in recent years, increasingly related to half truths and bended realities. Please urge the government to create a directive that would require greater honesty and dedication to the facts than currently exists. My suggestion is that for presidential elections, each candidate chooses a charity for themselves. Each time a candidate is proven to have said something untrue, they are required to donate $1 million to that charity from their campaign funds. Similar systems can exist for Congress, etc. In this system, everyone benefits. The elections are fairer and more representative of the truth, each campaign aids non-profits, and lying is strictly disincentivized. Everyone, especially our Republican System of government, wins!
