As of May 2016 there are estimated to be more than 500,000 light-duty plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) in the US. There are also more than 59 national parks operated by the National Park Service, an agency of the Department of the Interior. These parks a national treasure. Unfortunately while it is possible to reach many of these parks with electric vehicles, due to the lack of charging infrastructure within the parks the round-trip distance may be prohibitive. Electric vehicles are growing in popularity and are friendly to the environment and lessen our reliance on foreign oil.
We call on the administration to fund and sponsor the addition of in-park electric vehicle charging in our national parks. We see this as a natural extension of the administrations EV Everywhere Challenge.
