A month ago, American women lost a major right over our bodies, a right that was endorsed by the FDA. Years of research affirmed that Plan B contraception was safe enough to be sold over the counter. And though it can & probably will make an 11-year-old sick at her stomach, so could eating 2 pints of ice cream, which she could also buy OTC.
No matter what Ms. Sebelius’s objections are to the FDA, it’s undeniable that the long-term effects of having a child will have a greater impact on an adolescent than a dose of hormones, which are already legal in the form of the Pill. We respectfully request that the Obama administration support the FDA’s recommendation to make the Plan B pill available OTC, clearing the path for women & adolescent girls to take control of their bodies & sexual health
