The United States of America is one of only a few nations (and the sole first world nation) on the entire planet that does not provide new parents paid parental leave. This is a national embarrassment and contrary to the core values our nation promotes. Our new parents deserve better. Our society deserves better. This is a matter of human dignity and of human rights. This is about putting people before profits. This is about Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness.
We propose that, in order to bring the US to par with the rest of the world, paid parental leave be federally mandated for no less than 26 weeks, irrespective of and superseding existing state laws.
