We call on President Obama to respond to Putin's crackdown on free speech and equal rights by requesting that the colors of the Olympic Rings on U.S. uniforms be changed from their traditional colors to Purple, Orange, Yellow, Green, & Blue.
Using the rainbow banner of the movement for gay rights will help the US government achieve several goals.
1. A show of defiance to Putin's threat to arrest those who voice support for equal rights.
2. An assertion of American identity as expressed through our support of free speech. Even those who do not embrace the gay cause can embrace the right to support it.
3. An expression of solidarity amongst US Olympians, and athletes globally.
4. This is a poignant opportunity for the US Olympic Team to place itself on the right side of history.
