One common thread through all the revolutions of this past year is the sharing of information by average people with the world. Violent, autocratic governments cannot exist under the scrutiny of their own people. They cannot overpower mass organizations against them, and they cannot distort the truth to their own purposes.
With widespread, free internet in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Congo, Yemen, Iran and North Korea people will learn more about the true nature of the West, women will learn about the rights other women enjoy, and children will envision an alternate future to the violent struggle they have so far faced.
The technology is here now. Even if half or two-thirds are found and destroyed by regimes that depend on ignorance, enough people will preserve them to flourish.
