The HOME Act would extend the protections of the Fair Housing Act of 1968 to LGBT people. The act would prohibit landlords, real estate agents, lendors and others from discriminating against or intimidating individuals because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, marital status or source of income.
Currently 29 states lack such protections for sexual orientation and 35 states lack protections for gender identity. The president needs to take action to make sure LGBT people are entitled to their full civil rights, including the right to housing without discrimination.
