Cost is frequently given as the main reason for the small percentage of electric cars being available to customers, regardless of their environmental benefits.
The purpose of this petition is thus to promote a change in the automobile business ecosystem and request that the government supports such a change through legislation, lack of legislation where deemed appropriate, support of R&D, etc.
A key feature of this change would come through the introduction of driverless vehicles which would free the driver from being focused on the operating of the vehicle. The vehicle would thus be a platform for additional services, in a manner similar to that speadheaded by Apple with the iPhone. The sale of these services would alleviate some of the costs involved in the production of the vehicles.
