The Invisible Arm Project contends that athletic subsidies, essentially tuition from students, contributes significantly to the financial constraints to obtaining post-secondary degrees. Rutgers University's subsidy to athletic programs surpasses $115 million over the last 5 years.The Invisible Arm Project asks the administration and congress to support our proposal to requires all institutions in the US to eliminate subsidies to athletic programs within 5 years, and make student fees for athletics optional. Institutions that do not comply become ineligible to receive federal funding. Athletic programs must be self sufficient - generating all revenue required for operations independent of the academic mission of the colleges and universities.
