While so much attention has been apportioned to fixing student loan debt, one area being ignored is the parent’s burden to pay off student loan debt that they took on; all in an effort to help their child pursue the American dream.
Parent PLUS loans are not eligible for any of the repayment assistance programs that could desperately help American families repay student loan debt. Even if parents consolidate the loan, the Income-Contingent Repayment plan doesn’t relieve the burden of student loan debt that could be eased under one of the newer repayment programs.
We humbly ask that the Obama Administration publicly advocate for Congress to enact legislation like that of HR4661 to help American families repay student loan debt under today's Income Based Repayment programs.
