News agencies, print, web, radio, and TV, should be expected to tell the truth when reporting. Their primary role is to keep the citizenry informed in order to enable a functioning democracy. News and opinion should be clearly differentiated at the beginning of any article or television news program, claiming which of the two is being presented. Americans trying to participate in the workings of their country should not have to sift through statements presented as facts for truths and/or falsehoods. Opponents will cry 1st Amendment rights, but, just like we can't falsely yell "Fire!" in a movie theatre, reporters shouldn't be allowed to deliberately mislead the public. In both cases, citizens are endangered -- the first, physically, the latter, intellectually.
